The Greater Ridgewood Youth Council (GRYC) is the largest independent youth serving agency within Community Board 5, presently serving close to 6,000 children and families annually. The GRYC is a not-for-profit agency that provides mutli-services. Its programs are focused on education, recreation, counseling, truancy prevention, job readiness and employment opportunities, as well as a host of other services.
Major programs include the Little Stars Pre-K, attended by 162 children and the IS 93 Beacon Program serving approximately 3,000 youth. A year-round Youth Educational & Employment Program provides basic skills training, job readiness development and internship opportunities to approximately 200 teens. In addition, the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides over 300 teens with summer jobs, and many of the participants with their first working experience. After school programs at IS 93, IS 77, PS 239, PS 91, PS 88, PS 71, PS 81 and PS 153 focus on after-school homework help and aim to enhance the students’ school day experience.
The GRYC is a safe haven for neighborhood youth and their families. With a wide range of comprehensive and multifaceted programs, the GRYC helps children and adults find new avenues of learning and positive life experiences.
