LITTLE STARS UNIVERSAL PRE-K PROGRAM (UPK)
(GRYC Community Center: 62-02 Myrtle Avenue, Glendale, NY 11385)

The GRYC Little Stars Pre-K program services 4-year old children, by providing NYS mandated Universal Pre-Kindergarten.  Currently, we have four classrooms and three sessions for a total of 9 UPK classes and 162 children.  The sessions are 8:15AM-10:45AM, 11:45AM-2:15PM, and 2:30PM-5PM, Monday - Friday, for 176 school days per year.  The classes have approximately 18 students each.  Please note that the sessions and program hours of operation may change between school years.

We teach children according to developmentally appropriate practices as mandated by the NYC Department of Education Pre-Kindergarten Performance Standards.  We focus on promoting the development of the children cognitively (academically), physically, emotionally and socially.  To achieve these goals, we follow the Creative Curriculum for Pre-School by Dodge, Colker and Heronman, in a carefully planned environment.  Literacy is a part of our learning environment. Multi-cultural and multi-lingual children come together and learn English through play and social interaction, without pressure.  We lay the foundation for all their future learning.

Our program is FREE to parents due to our funding, which comes from New York State, through the NYC Department of Education.  By being enrolled at our Little Stars Pre-K program, children become part of the Department of Education and are transferred to a (zoned) kindergarten school at the end of the UPK school year.
