The Youth Educational & Employment Program is a collaborative effort between the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council, public and private schools, parents and youth.  The program objective is to provide opportunities for youth to understand the connection between education, the world of work and becoming productive members of their communities.

Job Readiness Training teaches students how to prepare a resume and cover letter, job-searching techniques and interviewing skills.  Basic Skills Training provides students who are deficient in Reading and Mathematics with tutoring in these subject areas.  Other program components include: Career Exploration, Job Shadowing, Internship and Employment opportunities, Leadership Development and Counseling.  In addition, many students voluntarily participate in various community service projects on weekends.

Participants complete internships at work sites located throughout the neighborhood and learn valuable, work place skills.  As a reward for participating, In-School program participants are automatically enrolled in the 7-week Summer Youth Employment (SYEP) Program.  This is an added bonus because this option allows students to immediately know the status of their summer employment in lieu of waiting; to find out if their name was selected in the overall SYEP lottery system.
